Green Consensus
In addition to the challenges brought by the pandemic, the world economy is going through a more difficult period in many areas. In 2020, the global economy experienced a historical contraction of 3.3 percent, while world trade in goods shrank by 5.3 percent.
Today, economic growth and contraction are no longer measured only by financial data. More equitable, inclusive and sustainable strategies and investments with a smaller carbon footprint are gaining importance.
The 21st century has brought digital and green transformation to the center of the global agenda. Thus, while policies to combat climate change have gained momentum around the world, the link between climate change and trade policies has become increasingly stronger.
There are various roadmaps to build a more livable world against the climate crisis and to transform the system in a humane way. One of these is the European Green Deal.
What is the Green Deal?
The 2019 Green Deal aims to minimize the impacts of the global climate crisis. While the policy focuses on the European Union's broader and more effective implementation of its existing targets, the policy's target year for these EU commitments is 2050. The agreement covers transformative policies based on improving Europe's climate until the target year is reached.
Green Consensus PlWhat are the Principles of memory?
The green consensus policy is based on a more moderate use of natural and environmental resources. The EU's targeted action plan envisages a strategy to reduce environmental pollution as well as minimizing the severe emissions that cause the climate crisis. The Green Deal action plan aims to make more efficient use of resources within the framework of a circular and clean economy. It also aims to reduce pollution by restoring biodiversity. The plan is based on policy principles. These principles can be listed as follows:
- Sustainable mobility (Sustainable means of transportation),
- Biodiversity (Proposals to make an unstable ecosystem more stable),
- Eliminating pollution,
- Sustainable industry (production cycles that do not harm the environment and nature),
- Construction and renovation (A green and clean construction sector),
- From farm to fork (Sustainable food strategy).
